Where to Find Top-Flight Spirits in Jupiter

There’s something about a beach vacation that conjures images of frosty, umbrella-topped drinks — it’s almost as if you can taste the Mai Tai when buying those airline tickets to Palm Beach International.

And while Jupiter doesn’t offer the same thumping nightlife as its glitzier, clubbier neighbors, it still boasts plenty of opportunities to experience the South Florida cocktail culture — or even to just sip a refreshing cold one. Here, we share our favorite spots to imbibe while unwinding in this tropical destination.

TIKI TIME

1. Guanabanas

First opened by Jupiter surfers as a sandwich shop, this open-air, local-favorite tiki bar has become a destination drinking spot, drawing thirsty travelers from up and down the coast. The reason? It might be its tropical setting — tucked into a tangle of banyan trees and palms along the Jupiter River — or its legendary live music. It could also have something to do with what’s on the menu: fresh Florida seafood (macadamia-and-coconut-encrusted fresh catches, Florida Blue Crab cakes, smoked fish dip, shrimp fritters and more), paired with signature rum cocktails. Either way, it’s worth pulling up a dockside Adirondack chair to find out.

CRAFT CONCOCTIONS

2. Civil Society Brewing

Feeling tropical, but deep down, you really just want a cold one? This brewery, with locations in Jupiter and West Palm Beach, really gets you. For one, they brew beers with names like “Fresh,” “Pulp,” and “Sunshine State of Mind.” For another: They’re known to blend their berliner weiss with sweet pineapple and coconut, and then mix it with vanilla soft serve and cream of coconut for something that could only feel at home — and deliciously, refreshingly so — in South Florida. (“It’s a Dole Whip beer slushie,” one Instagrammer opines.) See also: beer popsicles.

LAIDBACK LIBATIONS

3. The Sandbar

If your idea of paradise is dipping sandy toes into the pool with a drink in hand to the sounds of live music, you’re in luck: The Sandbar at Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa offers live music Tuesday through Saturday. You’ll be steps from the resort’s 1,000 feet of Atlantic Ocean shoreline — and yet a world away from it all.

ROOFTOP ESCAPE

4. Topside at the Beacon

Similarly: If your vacation isn’t complete unless you’ve shared a bowl-sized tiki concoction on a rooftop overlooking the Jupiter Inlet waterfront, then head to this lively Polynesian-inspired escape for real-deal tiki classics and modern takes on tapas. Share a board of Spanish meats and cheeses while the sun dips below the horizon and the Jupiter Lighthouse takes over duty.

RAW BAR & BREWS

5. Lucky Shuck

Beer and bivalve lovers alike flock to this coolly casual oyster bar for its New Orleans-inspired menu (Crawfish gumbo! Barbecue shrimp! Muffalettas!) and its long, long tap list full of Florida brews. Order a dozen oysters with passionfruit-cucumber mignonette, a pint of local IPA and settle in for a sunset to remember.
