Street Smart: Third Street South in Naples

Naples is known as Florida’s shopping Mecca. Here we explore the historic street in the heart of Old Naples that started it all.

Called the birthplace of Naples, Third Street South has been a shopping and entertainment destination for the city since the 1930s. Just steps from the Naples Pier, this stretch of road is home to sophisticated eateries and high-end shops surrounded by courtyards, fountains, and colorful beach cottages. You’ll find plenty of distinctly Florida options like Old Naples Surf Shop and the city’s favorite coffee brewer, Bad Ass Coffee Company.

Maus & Hoffman [292 14th Avenue South]

This local clothier has been providing high-quality clothing to Naples from the corner of Third Street and 14th Avenue for over half a century, so they know what a Napolitano is looking for. Their brands include classic pieces from Luciano Barbera, Piazza Sempione, and Liberty of London, as well as their own colorful brand which offers the whimsical color and pattern options that define the Naples style. Think vintage paisley, nautical-themed button-ups and jewel-toned cashmere blazers.

Third Street Farmer’s Market [Third Street]

From mid-November to April, this shopping district transforms itself with vendors crowding the street between Broad Avenue and 13th Avenue South. Saturday mornings, the street overflows with fresh produce and flowers next to grass-fed beef and fresh-off-the-boat seafood. You can expect fresh-roasted coffee and warm pastries served alongside jams, relishes, and holistic dog treats. To make the event truly family (and Fido) friendly, live music and food vendors are always on hand as you peruse the market’s wares and dip in and out of the stores on Third Street.

Barbatella Gelato Bar [1290 Third Street S]

Chef Justin Carlisi dishes up authentic Italian inside the vibrant trattoria, but, on a hot summer afternoon, the biggest draw to Barbatella is their gelato bar. The bar offers 17 different flavors – from lemon to Fluffer Nutter, a peanut-butter-and-marshmallow concoction – that you can eat solo or mix and match into an Italian-style sundae. Try the Siciliana which pairs pistachio with hazelnut and tops it with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and a cannoli.

A Mano [301 13th Ave South]

Tucked into a pink bungalow with other notable clothiers, Eileen Fisher and J. McLaughlin, on the corner of 13th Avenue South and Third Street, A Mano is the perfect storm of shopping. Imagine luxury home furnishings and decor, as well as high-end brands for him, her, and the kids all tucked into one inviting storefront. This shop is perfect for picking up something for yourself as well as everyone back home because there is truly something for everyone.
