ICYMI: What's New at Samoset Resort

Why this is the year to reacquaint yourself with Samoset Resort.

Haven’t been to Mid-Coast Maine in a while? Here’s what you been missing, from the top-to-bottom renovations at  Samoset Resort to new farm-to-table fare and shopping historic Rockport Village.

New at Samoset Resort

Samoset Resort room renovation

Gorgeous New Guest Rooms

“The Way Life Should Be” promise the new official state signs, and it’s hard to argue when you settle into one of the 178 newly renovated rooms at Samoset Resort. Along with the timeless ocean views, guests will discover updated nautical furnishings and accessories to accent the Atlantic Ocean. Higher thread-counts, bigger TVs, fluffier queen-size pillows and state-of-the-art Simmons BeautyRest platform beds create an even more comfortable base camp for exploring the coast of Maine.

Spa Relaxation Room

Spa Surprises

Himalayan salt stones are all the rage lately, and now they’re available as an add-on for all massage services at the tranquil, seaside Samoset Resort Spa, or as a replacement for traditional river stones. Discover the pain relief and relaxation of new Reiki services in 25- and 50-minute increments. Other Spa additions include pedicures with add-on reflexology, skin resurfacing treatments, and clinical-grade peels. You’ll return home from your Maine vacation truly rejuvenated.

Fire and Nice

What’s hot at Samoset Resort? How about another firepit on the property? Overlooking Penobscot Bay with classic Adirondack chairs surrounding it, the firepit’s the place to be for nightly s’mores and daily snores as you nap the afternoon away. Welcome amenities, meanwhile, are nicer than ever, thanks to partnerships with local vendors. Mouthwatering sea-salted caramels from Rockland Bay-based Bixbyco.com are among the first new finds.

Lobster Tales

It’s a rare happening to haul in a calico lobster – think 1 in a 30 million – but that’s just what Captain Dominic Gioia recently did while aboard the Lively Lady. Luckily, you stand a much better chance of catching a ride with Gioia and learning all about lobsters thanks to new eco-tours and interactive fishing demonstrations from his family-friendly boat through Camden Harbor Cruises. You can even combine two of Maine’s most beloved treasures during the one-hour Lighthouse & Lobstering Cruise.

Award-Winning Chefs

Perhaps the only thing fresher than Maine-caught lobster is the fish prepared at Suzuki Sushi by Keiko Suzuki Steinberger, who was a 2019 semifinalist for the James Beard Best Chef award. One glance at the female chefs at work and the artful preparations of Maine shrimp and other local delicacies, and you know that this is a can’t-miss dining experience. Meanwhile, Kerry Altiero, the local and beloved chef and owner of Café Miranda, was named Hospitality Maine’s 2019 “Chef of the Year.” There’s never been a better time to discover “Let’s Get Dangerous,” “Et Tu, Brutus,” or “Gnu Thing,” just a few of the inventive dishes on Miranda’s menu. And if it’s Thai you want to try, check out the new, Camden location of Long Grain, where Pad Thai meets such menu items as Maine crab fried rice.

Meet Market

The newly opened Bleecker & Greer Main Street Meats & Provisions in Rockport Village is a tantalizing trio of butcher, bakery & market, and café. Pick up pork from Broad Arrow Farm or a turkey from Pine Tree Poultry; a sourdough celebrated by Bon Appetit before treating yourself to a cappuccino and a slice of pie made with Maine berries.

At the Art of It All

Some of the freshest finds along the Maine coast are the vibrant new installations at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, in Rockland’s downtown arts district. It’s one of the hottest new places to see cutting-edge exhibitions beneath the sawtooth roofline designed by architect Toshiki Mori.
