4 Links to Linger on in Jupiter, Florida

Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa is the perfect jumping-off point for the best 18-hole public golf courses on Florida’s Atlantic coast.

Jupiter has consistently garnered awards and praises from the press for its pristine beaches, but there’s a lot more to this northernmost town in Palm Beach County than just sand and surf. With an average year-round temperature of 73 degrees and 234 days of sun annually, it’s also home to some of Florida’s best golf courses. We’re talking a mix of both private and public courses that are why more than 60 current and former golf pros currently live in this Palm Beach County utopia. If you’re having a hard time choosing among the 160 courses that call this region home, here are a few of the favorite closest public options that guests of Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa like to frequent.

Jupiter Dunes Golf Course

Just around the corner from the resort, The Jupiter Dunes Golf Course is known as the place to work on your putting and chipping skills – in fact, it has been compared to the short course at Augusta just with a tropical vibe. Nicknamed the “Little Monster” for its challenging second shots, the par-3’s 18 holes weave through one of Jupiter’s natural estuaries, translating to plenty of water play, as well as picturesque views and an occasional wildlife sighting.

Abacoa Golf Club

Golfers of all stripes flock to Abacoa Golf Club for its scenic views and challenging play. As the last course designed by architect “Gentleman Joe” Lee, it features broad fairways with minimal obstruction and elevation changes that are somewhat unique to Florida courses. The well-groomed rolling fairways and fast greens make it popular with newcomers, and veteran golfers will appreciate the challenges presented by water features on 15 of the 18 holes.

North Palm Beach Country Club

While first built in 1963, the original North Palm Beach Country Club was razed and completely reimagined in 2006 with a new 37,000-square-foot clubhouse and a links-style course – actually, only one of two municipal courses in the United States designed by Jack Nicklaus. Like Abacoa, this par-71 course features elevation changes rarely found in South Florida for challenging, yet enjoyable play. Golfers and non-golfers alike will appreciate the panoramic views from every seat of the Farmer’s Table restaurant, whose diverse, health-conscious menu garners high marks.

Sandhill Crane Golf Club

A 30-minute drive from the resort, Sandhill Crane Golf Club was designed by Roy Case to be a “walk through nature” – and that it certainly is with 18 holes that wind through the 140-acre Loxahatchee Natural Preserve beneath towering Southern palms and pine trees. Generous, mildly rolling fairways offer elevation changes that afford spectacular views, while 12 of the holes feature water in the form of lakes and ponds.
