COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SAMOSET

Location

The Samoset Resort sits on the dramatic Maine mid-coast, minutes from charming downtown Rockland. The hotel consists of standard view, garden view, ocean view, and ocean front rooms and suites in the main building as well as free standing condos and cottages. The golf course surrounds the main hotel buildings while the outdoor pool, hot tub and Splash Bar overlook the Bay, a short walk to the southwest of the main hotel building. The Club is just to the north of the main hotel and conference center is connected to the main building. La Bella Vita, our hotel restaurant, and the Spa are in the main building.

The cottages are the closest accommodations to the ocean (amongst them, Flume Cottage is right on the water).

The closest airport to the hotel is Bangor International Airport (BGR), about an hour and a half away; the next closest is Portland International Airport (PWM), about an hour and forty-five minutes away. We recommend renting a car or arranging a taxi in advance!

We have a plethora of activities on property. We’re famous for the picturesque Samoset Golf Course, but we also have basketball, tennis, shuffleboard, disc golf, firepits, and so much more!

The Rockland Breakwater and Lighthouse are directly in front of the resort. The Breakwater is made up of giant granite blocks in water up to 70 feet deep. The breakwater (a 7/8 of a mile walk) ends at a lighthouse which hosts an open house during the summer months.

Rockport, Camden, and a variety of mid-coast attractions are a short drive from the hotel.

Yes, the hotel has a six-passenger van available, with advance notice, to transport guests to local areas.

Direct Booking Benefits

Yes, booking directly on Samoset’s website always gives you confidence you’re getting the best value. Many online travel agencies (OTAs) may advertise what looks like a lower rate, but that’s often because they don’t show associated fees upfront. Once the OTAs factor those in (usually at the last step in the booking process), the cost typically matches (or is more than) what you’d pay by booking direct – except without the benefits that come with booking straight from the source.

There are several advantages you miss out on when you don’t book direct, including:

  • Exclusive Offers – When you book through our website, you unlock exclusive offers you won’t see on third-party sites. These specials add extra value to your stay, from savings on longer getaways and seasonal promotions to curated experiences you won’t find anywhere else.
  • Access to More Availability/Room Types – There are limits on the inventory sold through online travel agencies, so when you book directly, you’ll find the widest availability and most access to every room type – making it easier to choose the perfect fit for your stay.
  • True Customer Service – From booking to checkout, you’ll work directly with the people who know the property best. Our concierge and front-desk staff can tailor recommendations, handle special requests, and anticipate your needs to ensure every detail of your getaway is seamless, stress-free, and exactly the experience you’re looking for. OTAs will never do that.

Absolutely. When you book direct, any changes or cancellations are handled quickly and personally by our hotel team or our dedicated Opal Collection reservations team – no middleman, no hassle. With OTA reservations, adjustments have to go through large centralized call centers that manage thousands of properties, which often means longer wait times and less flexibility.

When booking online, always pay attention to the search results – and be on the lookout for scammy imitation sponsored ads from OTAs. Make sure the link points to the hotel’s official domain (opalcollection.com/samoset) or booking engine (reservations.opalcollection.com/samoset), not a third-party site. And, when in doubt, start at the hotel’s homepage or call the property.
